New business, Hardline Transport Solutions Inc. of Moose Jaw, is on the road “transporting produce, meat products, food grade materials, hazardous materials, heavy machinery or anything that is ‘sudden service’; a dedicated service with a time constraint.” They are a north to south domestic carrier, basing services around the area, doing business with the new facility in Regina for Loblaws Canada, Thunder Creek Pork in Moose Jaw, as well as others. Mike Bertossa, Vice-President of Hardline Transport Solutions Inc. said, “Moose Jaw is the hub of everything that goes north to south/east to west; everything has to pass through Moose Jaw.” The business that just opened its doors in January is experiencing an unbelievable response and the partners, Mike Bertossa and Dean Lang, have found an immediate opportunity because there are very limited resources for transporting produce in a climate-controlled environment, as well as hazardous material capabilities. Bertossa comes with over 20 years experience in the business, previously working with Payne Transportation Co. in Winnipeg and Loblaws Canada, prior to that. Dean Lang has also seen exceptional success in his trucking business, owner of Gibson International Carriers. With a friendship based on mutual respect and a partnership based on good business practices,

Bertossa said, “With Dean’s business Gibson International coupled with this, the business has the stability needed in the marketplace.” “I have great respect for Dean,” he said, “I consider him a friend and a great support and I appreciate him as a partner in this venture.” “Hardline Transport Solutions Inc. have a base of 20 trucks with 25 reefers and an availability of 34 power units from Gibson International,” said Bertossa. “Partnered with a few carriers to make our base stronger and with the outside property carriers, we are about 75 strong.” “We truck 24 hours a day, have a 24/7 on call dispatch, cross-dock facilities available and we are available all the time.” “The idea is to keep the trucks busy at all times, rather than expanding our base. It makes total sense to become economically efficient with them,” he said. “The big key was in keeping the client base from the past so we know their business practices and there wouldn’t be any issues.” “So far in customer base, business is solid. Everything has come together and the people that I have done business with in the past are a big support in this; they are making sure that we are pushing ahead,” Bertossa said. “We offer a full service facility,” said Bertossa, “from mechanical to sanitizing and washouts.” “In the food industry you have to be spotless, inspected and clean and spotless when they

get to the customer’s door.”

“We have done over 150 shipments so far and haven’t received any rejections at all,” Bertossa mentioned. “As far as the service part of our business, it’s like saying inflexible and uncompromising. If we say it’s going to be there, it’s going to be there. If we have an issue, you are going to know about it before so we can correct it or make adjustments so the shipment will be there when the customer needs it.” “The other big thing here with us in the community,” he said, “it’s about providing jobs for people, as well. We wanted to start something new and something different and noticed it in the trucking industry and the trend; with cattle companies, dry freight companies, etc., but there is no specific company that is able to go to the specialty companies like produce, hazardous materials, machinery and things like that, so we wanted to fill the void.”
